Shopping for an area rug usually means picking from whatever size the store happens to stock. A custom rug flips that: you choose the material, the exact dimensions, the shape, and the edge finish, and our in-house Naples workroom fabricates it to order. Here's how to think through each decision.
Start with the material
Custom rugs are made from broadloom carpet, not pre-made rug stock - which is what makes true customization possible. We stock wool, sisal, natural fiber, synthetic, patterned, and designer broadloom, plus indoor/outdoor materials for a lanai or screened porch.
Sizing it to your room, not the other way around
The most common mistake with a stock rug is buying one that's technically "close enough" - too small under a sectional, or a few inches short of reaching a dining set. Custom sizing means we measure your actual space and cut to those dimensions, so the rug does its job instead of just filling the floor.
Shapes we fabricate
- Rectangle - the standard for living rooms and dining areas
- Round - popular under round tables and in foyers
- Runner - hallways, galley kitchens, and stair runners
- Custom template - oddly shaped rooms, curved staircases, or a fireplace corner cut to fit exactly
Edge finishes
| Finish | Look | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Cotton binding (7/8" - 1 1/4") | Clean, simple tape edge | Everyday rugs and runners |
| Wide binding (3" - 5") | Bold, framed look | Statement rugs in formal rooms |
| Wool serging | Hand-finished, couture edge | Premium wool and natural-fiber rugs |
